Dr. Nancy Myles Baffour Gyamfi

Nancy Oppongwaa Myles, PhD, is currently a Senior Lecturer of Philosophy at the Department of Philosophy and Classics, University of Ghana, with over a decade and a half university teaching and mentoring experience. She also has a background of academic training and participation in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, and some African countries. Dr. Myles obtained her PhD from the University of Utrecht, Netherlands, after receiving both her Bachelor’s and MPhil degrees in Philosophy at the University of Ghana. Her research interests, focus and publications straddle social and political philosophy, ethics, African philosophy, conceptions of personhood and environmental sustainability. She is currently the coordinator and examiner of the university-wide required course Critical Thinking and Practical Reasoning and oversees its teaching, and assessment, to over 14, 000 students at the University of Ghana and its affiliates annually. She held the same position in 2012/2013. She has lectured cognates of this course and others for up to a decade in the Philosophy Department, the Family Health Medical School (FHMS), the Chartered Institute of Bankers (CIB), Webster University Ghana campus, Ghana Armed Forces and Staff College (Junior Division), Otu Barracks, Methodist University College, among others. She has vast experience in teaching, mentoring, and developing analytic, critical thinking and problem-solving skills in human resource regardless of the professional focus. She has deep and practical knowledge of how to get students and participants to appreciate the value of critical thinking and ethics in their various disciplines and lives. Dr. Myles is an awardee and collaborator of various national and international grants including the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation grant (2018) and the recent Africa-Oxford (AfOx) Catalyst grant (2024). Nancy serves on several boards and committees. She is hardworking, innovative, an initiative-taker, principled, modest and positively ambitious. She is a wife and a mother of four who continues to inspire many. Nancy loves God, family and community.
